New DirectCourse Webinar Focuses on Future Needs of Caregivers in the Home
DirectCourse is proud to present the recording of its latest webinar, Future Needs of Caregivers in the Home, presented by Nancy Thaler, Executive Director of the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDS).
According to recent studies noted in the webinar, almost 40% of all adult Americans are caring for someone disabled or ill, and 85% of older family care recipients are receiving care from spouses or children. Thaler’s one-hour PowerPoint presentation focuses on the future needs for care givers in the home and the type of skills needed to comply with CMS expectations regarding inclusion.
Issues include: facing the extreme changes in demographics in the United States, responding to the need for long-term care and support, pressures on resources due to funding challenges, and more.
Thaler, who has almost 45 years of experience working in the public and private sector, with a focus on publicly funded service systems for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, observes that states cannot afford to keep expanding services that give 24-hour care. As labor-intensive arrangements begin to become strained, families will become the backbone of the nation’s long-term care system. Will they struggle alone, or be partnered and supported in their communities? In this complex and enlightening webinar, Thaler shares her lifetime of experience and training, responding to these challenging concerns.
The webinar was held June 18, and is available for viewing by clicking here.
