DirectCourse – Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions – we have answers!

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive, as well as our responses.

How are your curricula developed?

The curricula has been developed through a collaboration between Elsevier and various nationally recognized research and training centers, including the University of Minnesota’s Research and Training Center on Community Living; the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts, Boston; the Community Living Policy Center at the University of California, San Francisco; and the Temple University Collaborative on Community Inclusion of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities. Each curriculum is guided by a National Advisory Board comprised of nationally recognized thought leaders for the specific curriculum.   Additionally, an Editorial Board for each curriculum provides peer review of content prior to publication of a course.  Each lesson of every course is presented consistently because of the collaboration and employment of an instructionally designed adult learning principles and templated format.

Will your curriculum help me meet my state standards?

Yes- content in each lesson of every course can be annotated based on the needs of an individual organization and people being supported to meet specific organizational rules, regulations, policies or procedures at any local or state level. If there is anything state specific, you have the ability to input those annotated standards and links directly into our lessons.

Do I receive a certificate upon completion of each lesson?

Yes- there are certificates of completion for every lesson you finish.  Our learning management system also archives all grades and hours completed into a detailed transcript; you can also provide the learner a copy to take with him/her.

I want to incorporate my current training materials into my DSP’s training development; can I use your system to hold all of my own material as well?

Yes – our system allows you to upload anything that is saved onto your computer. You can integrate your current and future outside materials and we can work with you to create a certificate for completing additional training. You can also assess credit hours and grades to your uploaded training material, which will show up on the learner’s transcript.

Is there a way to ensure that the individuals doing the training are reading the lessons in full?  In other words, is there a way to prevent learners from skipping the training portion and going straight to the test?

The module delivering the lessons can be set to require the lesson be completed prior to accessing the test. The system default does not require lesson completion prior to testing.   Additionally, there is a report available that will indicate each time a test is started and another to indicate when a lesson is started.

I use Therap in my organization; is there a way to integrate the two?

The “Therap Bridge” is a bridge between the Therap platform and Elsevier’s EPM for any Therap customers that also have a contract with Elsevier for the DirectCourse products. The bridge provides the mutual users of Therap and Elsevier the ability to access DirectCourse content and use Elsevier EPM tools, in addition to accessing the documentation and billing features of Therap.  Therap customers are required to login daily, and can easily use the bridge to get to the Elsevier platform to access their eLearning by clicking a link in Therap called ‘Go to My Lessons’.
